Sabinovská úverná banka, Sabinov

Sabinovská úverná banka (Sabinov Credit Bank) was founded as a joint-stock company in 1912 under the Hungarian name Kisszébeni Hitelbank, r. t. The bank’s share capital was 200,000 Austro-Hungarian crowns (K). This was represented by 2,000 shares with a nominal value of K 100 each. The bank’s activities focussed on the acceptance of deposits and the provision of mortgage loans or loans secured by promissory notes. The bank was a relatively small financial institution. Between 1913 and 1915 it had a net profit of K 15,000, deposits amounting to K 250,000 and extended loans amounting to K 450,000. For the 1922 financial year it reported deposits worth 375,000 Czechoslovak crowns (Kč) and its stock of loans amounted to Kč 525,000.

At that time the members of the board of directors and supervisory boards were Mark Kurcz, Samuel György, Juraj Tomek, Jozef Potocska, Mikuláš Ungár, Samuel Klein, Samuel Zipszer, Emil Gallé, Imrich Helczinger, Odon Ádám and Štefan Szerényi. Leo Foldi was the accountant and Lipot Munk was the company lawyer.

The Sabinov Credit Bank remained in operation until 1925, when it merged with Tatra banka.

Preserved archival material on the bank was stored in the corporate archives of Štátna banka československá (State Bank of Czechoslovakia) in Bratislava until 1965, when it was transferred to the corporate archives of Štátna banka československá at 2 Šrobárova Street in Košice by order of the Slovak Archives Administration. After 1990 the fonds was relocated to the Archives of Národná banka Slovenska at 27 Krajná Street in Bratislava and it was moved again to its archives building at 8 Cukrová Street in Bratislava in 2003.

An inventory of the fonds was made in 1967. It was revised in the Archives of Národná banka Slovenska in 2016. The documents are stored in one archival box and consist of two balance sheets from the years 1924 and 1925, correspondence about the merger with Tatra banka and an audit report from 1925.
