Fond znárodneného hospodárstva, Bratislava
Fond znárodneného hospodárstva (Nationalised Economy Fund) was established by Decree No 100/1945 of the President of the Republic to provide compensation services in respect of compensation for nationalised assets by issuing securities with a state guarantee.
In fact, it only began operating in 1948 after the adoption of Act No 51/1948 on the financing of national industrial and food enterprises. It became the central registration point for nationalised industry and the focal point for its financial affairs.
Government Decree No 253/1948 stipulated that the Fund would be managed by a six-member board appointed for a four-year term by the minister of finance. Accounting, treasury and clerical services for the Fund would be provided by Investičná banka, national enterprise, Prague. Its main source of income was levies on national enterprises, compensation for nationalised property, allocations from the state budget and loans from Investičná banka.
Under Act No 104/1950, it became the central clearing house of the economy. This law attempted to separate investment and operational financing for businesses. Business investments would be financed only from sources intended for the provision of investment loans. Operational loans were permitted only up to levels approved in the budget. As a priority, loans would be granted for tasks defined in the national plan.
Under Act No 106/1951 on arrangements for the financing of national and municipal enterprises, the Fund ceased to provide financial services from 1 January 1952 and Government Regulation No 253/1948 was repealed. The Fund’s liabilities to Investičná banka for long-term investment loans were to be repaid by funds from the state budget.
Archival documents relating to the activities of Fond znárodneného hospodárstva were originally stored in the corporate archive of Štátna banka československá in Marianka. In the period 1975 – 1977, they were transferred to the bank’s archives building at 27 Krajná Street and in 2003 they were moved to the archives building of Národná banka Slovenska at 8 Cukrová Street in Bratislava.
The archival fonds consists of 15 linear metres of documents from the years 1946 to 1954 consisting mainly of accounting documents, the financial statements and annual accounts of enterprises, schedules of obligations and correspondence with state administration bodies, enterprises and district banks. The fonds is in good physical condition. A temporary inventory was made in 2006 and revised in 2015 in the Archives of Národná banka Slovenska.
