Sporiteľňa XVI spišských miest, Spišská Nová Ves
Sporiteľňa XVI spišských miest, účastinná spoločnosť (Savings Bank of the XVI Spiš Towns, joint-stock company) was founded in 1845 under the Hungarian name Szepesi XVI városi takarékpénztár, r. t. It issued 300 shares at 105 guldens each to generate share capital of 31,500 guldens. In 1921, shortly before the bank ceased operations, its share capital was 720,000 Czechoslovak crowns (Kč). The aim and purpose of the financial institution were to accept deposits, provide loans, buy and sell real estate and provide universal banking services.
In 1907, the bank reported a net profit of 32,000 Austro-Hungarian crowns (K) with stocks of deposits amounting to K 2.6 million and loans amounting to K 3 million. The financial yearbook Compass reported that between 1913 and 1915, the bank made a net profit of K 90,000 with deposits of K 3.2 million and loans of K 3 million. In 1921 it reported a net profit of Kč 29,000, deposits of Kč 7.8 million and loans of Kč 7 million.
The members of the board of directors and supervisory board at that time were Baron Aladár Wieland, Gustáv Thern, Aladár Scherffel, Kornel Folgens, Antal Teschler, Koloman Langsfeld, Ladislav Wagner, Július Frenda, the accountant Juraj Langsfeld and the treasurer Oskar Jantner.
Sporiteľňa XVI spišských miest remained in operation until 1922, when it was taken over by the Spišskonovoveská úverná banka (Spišská Nová Ves Credit Bank) in Spišská Nová Ves.
The bank’s preserved archival material was stored in the archives of Štátna banka československá (State Bank of Czechoslovakia) in Bratislava until 1965, when it was transferred to the corporate archives of Štátna banka československá at 2 Šrobárova Street in Košice by order of the Slovak Archives Administration. After 1990 the fonds was relocated to the Archives of Národná banka Slovenska at 27 Krajná Street in Bratislava and it was moved again to the NBS archive building at 8 Cukrová Street in Bratislava in 2003.
The documents are stored in a single box. They include only a fragment of the loan files for the period 1875 to 1919, a balance sheet for the period 1878 to 1894 and a passbook. An inventory of the fonds was made in 1967 and revised in the Archives of Národná banka Slovenska in 2016.
