Sečovský peňažný ústav, Sečovce

Sečovský peňažný ústav, účastinná spoločnosť (Sečovce Financial Institution, joint-stock company) was founded in Sečovce in 1869 under the Hungarian name Gálszécsi takarék és hitelpénztár, r. t. (Sečovce Savings Bank and Credit Union, joint-stock company). It had share capital of 60,000 guldens. The share capital was raised to 400,000 Austro-Hungarian crowns (K) in 1910 based on 2,000 shares with a nominal value of K 200 each. The bank was authorised to provide universal banking services including the acceptance of deposits, the intermediation of loans and the purchase and sale of real estate.

According to the Compass yearbook, the bank had a net profit of K 57,000 in 1907 with deposits of K 1.9 million and extended loans amounting to K 1.5 million. The balance sheet for 1922 showed a net profit of K 262,000, deposits on savings books amounting to K 5.5 million and loans with a total value of K 2.5 million.

The members of the board of directors and supervisory board at that time were Jozef Nemethy, Jonas Herskovits, Gabriel Koch – the managing director in 1926, Miksa Kende, Štefan Novák – chairman of the board of directors in 1926, Vojtech Szirmay, Andrej Sikorszky, Pavel Andor, Ignác Gotberger, Samuel Kovács, Gašpar Szemere, Jozef Sztankoczy and Ferdinand Novák – the treasurer in 1926.

The financial institution operated until 1926, when it merged with Dunajská banka (Danube Bank) and became its branch in Sečovce.

The preserved archival material was entered in the corporate archives of Štátna banka československá (State Bank of Czechoslovakia) in Košice. In 1990 it was transferred to the Archives of Národná banka Slovenska at 27 Krajná Street in Bratislava and moved to the building at 8 Cukrová Street in Bratislava in 2003. An inventory of the fonds was made in the corporate archives of Štátna banka československá in 1967 and this was revised in the Archives of Národná banka Slovenska in 2016. The preserved documentation consists of one mortgage ledger covering the period from 1906 to 1942.
