Šamorínsky úverný ústav, Šamorín

Before 1920, Šamorínsky úverný ústav (Šamorín Credit Institute) operated under the name Šamorínska sporiteľňa a úverný ústav, účastinná spoločnosť (Somorjai takarékpénztár és hitelintézet, r. t., in Hungarian; Šamorín Savings Bank and Credit Institute, joint-stock company). Its founding general meeting took place on 16 December 1894 and it began operating at the start of 1895. In its business activities, it was authorised to accept deposits on savings books and current accounts; to grant mortgage loans and loans on current accounts with adequate collateral; to buy and sell securities and other assets; to buy, sell and subdivide real estate; and to establish, manage and own shares in industrial, commercial and agricultural enterprises.

The share capital amounted to 60,000 Austro-Hungarian crowns (K) in 1895. It rose to K 120,000 in 1909 and 1 million Czechoslovak crowns (Kč) in 1927. After the Vienna Arbitration transferred the town of Šamorín and the bank to Hungary, the bank adjusted its share capital to 150,000 Hungarian pengő (P) and it became a member of the Pénzintézeti Központ (Financial Centre) banking organisation based in Budapest.

The minutes and other archival material of the institution’s governing bodies were probably taken to Hungary or destroyed during the Second World War.

After the war, the Šamorín Credit Institute was brought back into the Czechoslovak financial system. On 27 July 1945, the Slovak National Council’s Executive Authority for Finance appointed a temporary administration to manage it under Decision No 2200/45-VI/18. Decision No 3537/46-VI/18 of the Executive Authority for Finance of 29 January 1946 replaced the temporary administration with a national administration. Decision No 11600/46-VI/18 of 12 July 1946 ordered the liquidation of the Šamorín Credit Institute and appointed Július Kotiers as liquidator.

Decision No 12263/47-VI/18 of the Ministry of Finance of 27 October 1947 replaced the liquidator with a newly established general liquidation administration whose members were Július Sokol, chief of section in the Executive Authority for Finance (chairman); Alexander Marko, bank director (vice-chairman); Karol Šnour, bank director; Ernest Skalník, bank officer; and Igor Dula, vice-president of the Regional Office.

Decree No 265/50 (OJ I) of the Ministry of Finance transferred all rights and obligations of the Šamorín Credit Institute to Slovenská všeobecná úverná banka, národný podnik v likvidácii (Slovak General Credit Bank, national enterprise in liquidation) in Bratislava. Subsequently, on 15 November 1951, they were transferred with the rights and obligations of Slovenská všeobecná úverná banka to Štátna banka československá (State Bank of Czechoslovakia).

From 1956, the archival documents of this financial institution were stored at the former monastery in Marianka with the corporate archives of the Regional Institute of Štátna banka československá for Slovakia. In the period 1975–1977, they were transferred to the bank’s archives building at 27 Krajná Street and in 2003 they were moved to the archives building of Národná banka Slovenska at 8 Cukrová Street in Bratislava.

Part of the archival fonds was processed in 1964. Most documents are written in Hungarian with a smaller part in Slovak. The majority of documents date from the period between 1930 and 1948. The partial inventory was revised in the Archives of Národná banka Slovenska in 2015.
