In July, August and September the Archives are closed to the public.
The Archives will be closed on 18 and 25 February 2025. 



Rožňavská banka, Rožňava

Rožňavská banka, účastinná spoločnosť (Rožňava Bank, joint-stock company) was established in 1862 under the name Rožňavská sporiteľňa a záložňa, účastinná spoločnosť (Savings Bank and Pawnbroker of Rožňava, joint-stock company). In the same year, it opened a branch in Plešivec. It had share capital of 160,000 guldens. It grew over time and reached 560,000 Austro-Hungarian crowns (K) in 1914. Together with the reserve fund, the bank had K 1.1 million at its disposal. It was authorised to provide universal banking services, to take deposits, to provide loans and to buy and sell real estate.
According to the Compass financial and commercial yearbooks, in the period 1908 to 1909, the bank made a net profit of K 96,000 and reported deposits of K 5.8 million, loans of K 4.5 million and a gross turnover of K 33.5 million.
 
In 1913 the bank had three branches – Štítnik, Plešivec and Tornaľa – and two affiliated institutions – Turňanská ľudová banka and Galantská sporiteľňa (Savings Bank of Galanta). It participated in the establishment of industrial enterprises and held shares in enterprises such as the Marko leatherworks or the Šajodolinské elektrárne electricity company. Compass reported that in the years 1913 to 1915, it had a net profit of K 150,000, deposits of K 7.7 million and total loans between K 7 million and K 10 million.
 
In 1920 the bank changed its name to Rožňavská banka. It opened a branch in Dobšiná two years later. In 1923 it took over Veľkorevúcka úverná banka (Credit Bank) in Revúca and made it its branch. In 1922 it reported a net profit of 126,000 Czechoslovak crowns (Kč) with deposits on savings books amounting to Kč 14 million, deposits on current accounts of Kč 2.8 million and loans totalling Kč 11 million, and owned real estate with a value of Kč 585,000.
 
The members of the board of directors and the supervisory board at that time were Dezider Pósch, Štefan Ditter, Jozef Pósch, Július Terray, Jakub Benko, Bartolomej Baán, Miksa Gál, Alexander Hajcsi, Ignác Stromp, František Kozma, Simon Tyroler, Odon Kubinyi, Žigmund Kirschner, Otto Hoffmann, Andrej Aczér, Gustáv Adamis, Ladislav Váray and Eugen Deil, the chief accountant was Mikuláš Kovács and the treasurer was Andrej Fialka. The branch managers were Dezider Zsanka in Plešivec, Mikuláš Kovács in Štítnik, Johan Rakovsky in Dobšiná and Jozef Mach in Tornaľa.
 
Rožňavská banka continued in operation until 1926, when it was taken over by Tatra banka.
 
The bank’s archival material was kept in the corporate archives of Štátna banka československá (State Bank of Czechoslovakia) in Rožňava until 1962, when it was transferred to the corporate archives in Košice by order of the regional branch. After 1990 the fonds was relocated to the archives of Národná banka Slovenska at 27 Krajná Street in Bratislava and it was moved to its archive building at 8 Cukrová Street in Bratislava in 2003.
 
The first inventory of the fonds was made in 1963. It was revised in 2016. The fonds consists mainly of account ledgers and one box of files containing the bank’s Articles of Association from 1921 and an annual accounts from 1923. There are also three books of minutes of the board of directors covering the period from 1901 to 1925.
