Roľnícka banka, Hliník nad Hronom

Roľnícka banka (Small Farmers Bank), Hliník and Hronom, was established in 1911 but probably began real operations a year later. The chairman of the bank’s board of directors was Karol Medvecký, the managing director was Ľudovít Medvecký, the deputy managing directors were Miroslav Solárik and Tomáš Varozny, and the other members of the board were Lipót Pelegrini, Ignác Jareš, Pavol Boška, Ján Finka, Ján Krátky, Jozef Šauša, Pavel Kútnik, Štefan Ševčík and Jozef Zúbrik. The supervisory board consisted of the chairman Ján Klč Mikuščák plus Alexander Seberíni and Juraj Majerský.

The bank had branches in Banská Štiavnica, Nová Baňa, Zlaté Moravce, Levice and Vráble. The head of the branch in Nová Baňa was Miloš Solárik. The bank had share capital of 100,000 Austro-Hungarian crowns (K) in the form of 1,000 shares with a nominal value of K 100. The bank was seen as supporting pan-Slavism and was therefore mistrusted by the Austro-Hungarian authorities. They went so far as to arrest the bank’s treasurer, Juraj Figuli, in 1918. The bank’s main customers were small Slovak farmers from Hliník nad Hronom and the surrounding area.

This credit institution ceased to exist in 1920 when it was taken over by Hospodárska banka, Bratislava (Farm Bank), Trnava (which relocated its headquarters to Bratislava in the same year).

The archival documents were initially entered in the corporate archives of Štátna banka československá (State Bank of Czechoslovakia) in Ružomberok. After 1990 the fonds was deposited in the archives of Národná banka Slovenska at 27 Krajná Street in Bratislava and it was moved to its archive building at 8 Cukrová Street in Bratislava in 2003. A temporary inventory of the fonds was made in the corporate archives of Štátna banka československá in Ružomberok in 1968 and this was revised and expanded in the archives of Národná banka Slovenska in 2016. The fonds consists mainly of accounting documents and minutes from the branch in Banská Štiavnica. The small amount of preserved materials from the head office consists only of accounting documents, a mortgage book and a book of shareholders from the time of the liquidation.
