Nitrianska ľudová banka, Nitra

The bank was established in 1869 under the name Nitrianska ľudová banka, účastinná spoločnosť (Nitra People’s Bank, joint-stock company) also known in German as Nitraer Volksbank AG, and in Hungarian as Nyitrai népbank, r. t. Its working languages were Hungarian and German. It had one branch only – in Ivanka pri Nitre.

On 31 December 1939, the bank merged with Slovenská ľudová banka, Bratislava and became a branch of this bank from 1940.

The main documents that have been preserved are minutes, account books and documents relating to the merger. The bank’s archival material was deposited in the corporate archive of Štátna banka československá in the former monastery in Marianka. This company archive was overseen by the regional branch for the City of Bratislava. In the period 1975 – 1977, the documents were transferred to the bank’s archives building at 27 Krajná Street and in 2003 they were moved to the archives building of Národná banka Slovenska at 8 Cukrová Street in Bratislava. An initial register of the fonds was made at Marianka and was revised at the Archives of Národná banka Slovenska in 2016.
