Collection of Securities
The Collection of Securities was created in the 1990s based on the documents discovered during the processing of the fonds maintained by Štátna banka československá. At present, it includes mortgage bonds and annuity bonds, debenture bonds, notes, treasury bills, and also mutual fund shares of various financial and business companies. The oldest security is a share certificate issued by Bratislavská sporiteľňa (Pozsonyi takarékpénztár, r.t.) (Savings Bank of Bratislava) established in Bratislava; it dates from 1843. These securities lost their financial value (the oldest ones during the monetary reform of 1953) and they are now pieces of paper without financial value. Nevertheless, they still have documentary and artistic significance.
The collection has the scope of 10 linear metres and its catalogue has been prepared. It includes more than 900 inventory items created according to the securities’ issuers. There are more than 1800 individual securities. They are dated to the period 1843 – 1996. The collection is constantly being enriched by processing archival fonds and by acquisitions.
