9 a.m. to 12 noon /

12:45 p.m. to 3 p.m.

In July, August and September the Archives are closed to the public.
The Archives will be closed on 26 and 27 March 2025. 



Pavol Majling

Pavol Majling(*13 June 1911 in Rudlová – †15 February 1984 in Bratislava)

From 1930 to 1948 he worked in Mestská sporiteľňa (City Savings Bank) in Banská Bystrica. After 1948 he was appointed to manage Okresná sporiteľňa and pokladnica (District Savings Bank and Treasury) in Banská Bystrica. After the establishment of Štátna banka československá, on 2 July 1950 he became the first director of its Regional Institute for Slovakia in Bratislava.

In 1953 he was appointed commissioner for finance and a year later he became chairman of the Slovak Planning Commission. In the years 1960 – 1967 he was appointed to the ministerial post - chairman of the Central Commission for the People's Controlling and Statistics. In the subsequent years until 1970, he was the ambassador to Bulgaria and Greece. In 1974 he was expelled from the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia.

As the chairman of the Slovak Planning Commission, he contributed to the industrialisation of Slovakia, and especially to the building of Východoslovenské železiarne (East Slovakian metalworks). He also promoted the reconstruction of Bratislava castle.
