Necpalský úverný ústav, Necpaly
Necpalský úverný ústav, účastinná spoločnosť (Necpaly Credit Institute, joint-stock company) was established in 1897. The chairman of the institute was Ondrej Kvorka, a teacher, and the deputy chairman was Pavol Skuhra, a farmer. The chairman of the supervisory board was Peter Kompiš, a banker. Ján Zuriaň and his daughter Zora Zuriaňová were employed as accountants. The treasurer was Pavel Daňovský. In 1913 Viliam Pauliny, one of the major figures in the history of the Slovak financial sector, was elected to the supervisory board.
In 1912 the institution recorded 700,000 Austro-Hungarian crowns (K) deposited on savings books and paid a dividend of K 6.50. By 1922, deposits had risen to K 2.9 million and total loans amounted to K 2.6 million. Its profit for 1922 was K 29,000.
On 26 March 1927, the institute merged with Národná banka (National Bank), Banská Bystrica, and became its branch in Necpaly. Ján Zuriaň became the manager of the branch, and after his death he was succeeded by his daughter Zuzana. The branch remained open until 1934, when Zuzana Zuriaňová retired. The branch’s business was then taken over by Národná banka’s branch in Martin.
The institute provided paper credit to farmers for seeds, fertiliser and the purchase of livestock, and mortgage loans for investments in machinery and buildings. It also served craftsmen, merchants and small builders. Most of them came from Necpaly and nearby villages (Belá, Dulice, Žabokreky, Folkušová).
There is one box of preserved archival material. It consists mainly of accounting documents. It was initially stored in the corporate archives of Štátna banka československá (State Bank of Czechoslovakia) in Banská Bystrica, where a temporary inventory was made in 1968. In 1995 the fonds was transferred to the archives of Národná banka Slovenska at 27 Krajná Street in Bratislava and in 2003 it was relocated to the archives building at 8 Cukrová Street in Bratislava. The original inventory was revised and expanded here in 2016.
