The institution was established with the assistance of Košická hypotečná banka, Košice, which initially served as its paying agent in Košice. Later it used a branch of Bratislavská všeobecná banka.
The institution was entitled to carry out all banking transaction permitted by law including taking deposits, intermediating loans, selling and buying real estate, recovering debts and providing safekeeping services.
For many years, Béla Szmrecsányi was chairman of the board. Members included Bertalan Szilágyi, Béla Gerlóczy and Béla Sennyey. Before the outbreak of the Second World War the director was Ladislav Zaluszky.
Between 1911 and 1917, dividends ranged from K 5 to K 7 per share but in 1918 and 1919, no dividends were paid. The highest dividends were paid in the period 1929 – 1931, when they amounted to 15 Czechoslovak crowns (Kč) per share. In 1926 the bank made a profit of Kč 40,000 whereas in 1939 it was around Kč 30,000.
In 1925 the institute took over Medzibodrogská banka (Bodrogközibank) in Kráľovský Chlmec, which had been in the orbit of Slovenská všeobecná úverná banka (Slovak General Credit Bank).
The Vienna Arbitration of 1938 assigned Kráľovský Chlmec to Hungary. At the end of the Second World War, it was decided that the institute should be liquidated and after several changes it came under the administration of Oblastná likvidačná kancelária (Regional Liquidation Office) in Košice. Under Decree No. 265/50 of the Ministry of Finance, all rights and obligations of the institute were transferred to Slovenská všeobecná úverná banka in liquidation in Bratislava. Subsequently, on 15 November 1951, they were transferred with all the rights and obligations of Slovenská všeobecná úverná banka to Štátna banka československá (State Bank of Czechoslovakia).
Preserved documents were placed in the archive of Štátna banka československá in Bratislava until 1965 when they were transferred to Štátna banka československá’s corporate archives at 2 Šrobárova Street in Košice by order of the Slovak Archives Administration. In 1995 the fonds was transferred to the Archives of Národná banka Slovenska at 27 Krajná Street in Bratislava and in 2003 it was moved to the Národná banka Slovenska archives building at 8 Cukrová Street in Bratislava.
The first inventory of the fonds was made at the archives of Štátna banka československá in 1967 and this was revised in the Archives of Národná banka Slovenska in 2016.
