Bankový dom Frankl a spol., Bratislava
Bankový dom Frankl a spol. (Frankl and Co. Banking House) was established in Bratislava on 19 October 1930 as a limited partnership with Česká eskomptná banka (Bohemian Discount Bank), Prague. It was entered in the Companies Register on 19 December 1930.
Its registered activities were carrying out banking transactions in all areas except the acceptance of deposits on savings books and the intermediation of personal and mortgage loans. Bankový dom Frankl a spol. was a limited partnership in which Artur Frankl was a general partner with full personal liability and the limited partner was Česká eskomptná banka, Prague, which invested 5 million Czechoslovak crowns (Kč). The institution had its head office in Bratislava and opened branches in Lučenec, Košice, Uzhhorod and Žilina. The head office was initially at 15 Ventúrska Street in Bratislava but later moved to 9 Hviezdoslav Square. The business manager was Artur Frankl. The Ministry of Finance authorised the institution to trade in foreign currencies in 1931.
The branches in Lučenec and Uzhhorod were lost due to the transfer of territory to Hungary in 1938 based on the Vienna Arbitration. They were taken over by the Košice Savings Bank resulting in great losses that severely disrupted the institution’s activity. They contributed to it being placed in liquidation on 20 February 1941. The liquidator was Emerich Kardoš, a bank official from Bratislava. The liquidation of assets and liabilities was completed on 10 May 1951 and the company was then deleted from the Companies Register.
The Archives of Národná banka Slovenska holds mainly documents relating to loans, accounting and taxation, together with several balance sheet documents from the company’s liquidation. The archival fonds was processed in 2009 and an inventory was created.
